Working title – “ Eco study of Sarajevo Environment (1992-1995)”
1989 I took part on
‘Sarajevo Dokumenta’, not long after Balkans countries especially Bosnia endured cataclysm, and for the second visit in 2010 Sarajevo was in ruins. This influence the outcome of the project I created on site at
‘Collegium Artistikum’, and the following 2011 at the same gallery while working on the installation
“φ18°27', λ43°53' - No: 2”, I recorded conversations with large group of Sarajevo citizens’ of their physical and psychological state during this never ending struggle to survive.
The resulting several hours sound and video documents electronically compressed in to two-three seconds will become part of the material for the multisensory sculpture
‘Explosion’.
Explosion,
Idea for site specific sculpture/ installation created in sound and light
controlled environment measuring approximately 3 x 3 x 3 metres.
Misshapen “womb like” object, rich in forms, colours, texture, smell, sound
and light will evoke almost all senses in contemplation this “claustrophobic
exploding space”.
Reconstructed ‘body’ of Sarajevo kitchen in the process of explosion made
from wood, stones, bricks, concrete, splinters of shattered furniture, sawdust
and sand bond together with wood glue, sisal twine, concrete and stucco
mortar.
Resulting forms contains ashes, human hair, crockery, fabric, bread crumps,
spices, colour pigments, pieces of vegetables, fruits, salt, sugar and different
colours sawing and knitting cottons, sisal twine, as well sound and light
reflected in mirror and glass fragments.
Use of material and construction of this project is in the frame of health and
safety standards.
The sound and light dominates above all, triggered by sensors by the visitors
entering and will reverberate as long as somebody is within the project.
This two/three seconds sound and light is the result of electronically
compressed several hour interviews conducted not long after the four years
siege of Sarajevo ended.
A group of Sarajevo citizens’ speaks of their physical and psychological state
during this never ending struggle to survive, through which above all ever
present sound of explosion dominated over the horizon.
As time progresses the organic material in this project gradually changes the
shapes and some of them will completely disappear, but the impression
their presence will be recorded in the concrete and stucco mortar.
As part of this long term project ‘Diary’ number of this site specific
projects ‘Explosion’ will be created at different locations inspired by
contemporary landscapes.
‘SARAJEVO EXPERIENCE AS BLUEPRINT, A SIMBOL OF CROSSING IN TO THIS CENTURY’.
